To start the inheritance process, you must make an appointment at your local branch to report the death and request the balance statements.
Statements shall only be issued to those who can prove their status as rightful heirs. In order to apply for them, the following documentation must be submitted, which will be reviewed by our legal counsel:
• Original death certificate issued by the Civil Registry.
• Original certificate of last will and testament issued by the Registro General de Actos de Última Voluntad (General Register of Last Will and Testament Acts).
• Authentic copy of the will or of the notarial act of "Declaration of intestate heirs".
• If the deceased had taken out a BanSabadell Vida product and was under 65 years of age, you must also provide the original of the medical death certificate.
Once the legal judgement has been issued by our legal counsel, the heirs will be able to dispose of the awarded assets upon presentation of the following documentation:
• Copy of the notarial deed of adjudication and acceptance of inheritance or, where applicable, of the private document (instance-inventory) presented to the liquidation office.
• Proof of payment/exemption of inheritance tax.
All this information can be found in the ‘Guide to inheritance procedures’.
